The touchscreen wallpaper of the future

I think that we all know that the future is full of Microsoft Surface technology, and I look forward to the day when every table or desk is a touchscreen.

This touchscreen is very useful for all.

DISPLAX, made by a Portuguese company, is prepared for an age where every tabletop, wall, or any large flat (or even curved) surface could be a touchscreen. DISPLAX is a thinner-than-paper polymer film that can be applied to glass, plastic, or wood and can detect up to 16 touches at once.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to think of some good uses already. In fact, my dream house will have DISPLAX as wall-paper in every room. Read the rest of this entry »

Garmin Silently Releases nuvi 1450 Navigation System

Garmin recently rolled out the new nuvi 1450 GPS navigation device for $449.99 a pop. Measuring 5.4-inch x 3.4-inch x 0.6-inch and weighing 7.8-ounces, the gadget comes equipped with a huge 5-inch touchscreen display with resolution of 480 x 272 pixels and a white backlight. It has a battery which provides up to three hours of operation time. In addition, the nuvi 1450 also has the ecoRoute feature that will route you using the most fuel efficient path to your destination, and an optional cityXplorer content to help you navigate the city on public transit showing where to catch a bus or subway.

Rockwell Collins MicroDAGR Handheld GPS Receiver

Rockwell Collins has released its new handheld GPS receiver for soldiers called the MicroDAGR. This portable navigation device is specially designed for operating in generally extreme conditions and meets the military’s standards.

It provides real-time positioning, navigation, moving maps and timing information via its full-color touchscreen display and can be easily worn on the wrist. Other interesting features include vibration alert, an MP3 player and a digital camera.

The Rockwell Collins MicroDAGR will be available for delivery in January 2010, with the first deliveries going to the U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force (REF).

At first glance, the Camden digital watch by Storm London looks like an ordinary timepiece. But, the watch comes with a touch screen display that can automatically shut off in order to conserve battery power. If you want to see the current time, all you have to do is tap it to get its display turned back on. It is also able to display a text message up to 10 characters. Available in Silver, Gold, and Slate, the Camden is priced at £139.99 or equal to $228.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X5 Concept

Esato user tob!s has designed the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X5 (codename: Nadine) concept as the successor to the Android-powered Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3. The phone comes jam packed with a futuristic QWERTY slider, a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 12-megapixel camera with auto-focus and Xenon flash, HD video recording and access to Sony Ericsson’s App Store. The XPERIA X5 will be available in Chrome Silver, Ocean Blue and Sunny Orange.

Nokia 5230 touchscreen phone announced

Nokia has announced a new addition to its touchscreen phone portfolio with the unveiling of the Nokia 5230, a mid-range mobile.

Said to be “designed for those who lead an active life and use their mobile phone as their primary instrument for music, photos and videos, as well as sharing their lives online”, the phone comes with Nokia’s Ovi Store pre-loaded and available as a direct link from the homescreen.

In addition, there’s A-GPS navigation with Ovi Maps with aerial images, 3D landmarks for over 200 cities and terrain map views for pedestrian and drive navigation.

The phone’s music player boasts 33 hours of playback time and a 3.5mm headphone jack while in select markets the handset will be offered with Nokia’s unlimited Comes With Music service.

The recommended price of the Nokia 5230 with the Comes With Music service will be 259 euros before subsidies and taxes while the handset only price is set at 149 euros.

The Nokia 5230 is due to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2009 in a variety of colours, we will bring you more on a UK launch nearer the time.

Stealth NW-2000 Rugged Convertible Touchscreen Notebook

Stealth Computer has unveiled their latest notebook, the NW-2000. This one is a rugged hybrid laptop/tablet based around Intel’s 1.06GHz Core 2 Duo. When I say tough, I mean Mr. T tough. Fool. It features a 13.3-inch sunlight viewable resistive touchscreen and MIL-STD-810F, shock & vibration compliance.

Some other features are: 2GB of RAM (maximum 4GB), 160GB shock-mounted hard-drive or optional SSD, and a spill-resistant keyboard. This baby can handle a drop from 91cm onto a wood-covered concrete surface 26 times in a row and still function. How’s that for tough?

You also get standard WiFi a/g/n, Bluetooth, gigabit ethernet and GPS, with optional HSDPA, a DVD burner, PC card slot, fingerprint scanner and TPM security module. You can expect 6hrs from the 7,800mAh battery. The Stealth NW-2000 is available to order now for $4,895.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 Rachael Specs Unveiled

Remember the Sony Ericsson Rachael – SE’s first Android smartphone? Its official name might be Sony Ericsson Xperia X3, and not Xperia X5, as we previously guessed.

A few weeks ago, when the first images of Rachael were leaked, we didn’t know too much about its features.

But now, thanks to the online retailer Expansys, we have an almost complete list of its specs.

The 8MP camera we already knew about is obviously confirmed, coming with autofocus, image stabilization, face detection, smile shutter, LED flash and VGA video recording.

The rest of the smartphone’s specs reportedly include:

COWON S9 White Edition

The COWON S9 digital media player that was released at the end of last year in titanium black and chrome black is now available in ceramic white. The gadget provides a 8GB or 16GB of storage capacity with a 3.3 inch OLED screen (480 x 272), and Bluetooth connectivity. The player also supports most of multimedia file formats including AVI, WMV, WMA, FLAC, OGG, APE, WAV, and JPG. No word on pricing so far.
