The touchscreen wallpaper of the future

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I think that we all know that the future is full of Microsoft Surface technology, and I look forward to the day when every table or desk is a touchscreen.

This touchscreen is very useful for all.

DISPLAX, made by a Portuguese company, is prepared for an age where every tabletop, wall, or any large flat (or even curved) surface could be a touchscreen. DISPLAX is a thinner-than-paper polymer film that can be applied to glass, plastic, or wood and can detect up to 16 touches at once.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to think of some good uses already. In fact, my dream house will have DISPLAX as wall-paper in every room. Read the rest of this entry »

Microsoft SideWinder X4 Gaming keyboard

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Microsoft Hardware launches the SideWinder X4 Keyboard, a keyboard designed to give gamers more control over their gaming experience with the industry’s most advanced anti-ghosting technology. Developed by the Applied Sciences Group, this new technology ensures gamers’ most complex key combinations will be recognized by the computer to keep the game in action. The new keyboard also offers other advanced gaming features such as macro recording, mode and profile switching, and adjustable backlighting.

It allows you to press up to 26 keys simultaneously, and since each key is scanned independently by the keyboard hardware, the SideWinder X4 will register each key press correctly, independent of all the other keys being pressed at once. In other words, the SideWinder 4 Keyboard by far excels where other keyboards fail, allowing gamers to execute key combinations that will be able to keep up with your skill and speed.

The Applied Sciences Group, an interdisciplinary research and development team that works across the Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division doing applied research for Microsoft Hardware, Microsoft Surface and Xbox 360, developed the anti-ghosting technology with gamers in mind. The advanced technology takes anti-ghosting to the next level by allowing gamers to press up to 26 keys at once. Because each key is scanned independently by the keyboard hardware, each key press is correctly detected regardless of how many other keys are being pressed at the same time. The SideWinder X4 Keyboard excels where other keyboards fail, letting users execute key combinations and taking full advantage of their skill and speed.

The SideWinder X4 Keyboard will be available in March 2010 for the estimated retail price of $59.95.

Bike SpokeLit

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

If you happen to stay in one of the more bicycle-friendly cities around the globe, why not make the most of the situation by equipping your two-wheeler with the Bike Spokelit? After all, it will go a long way in increasing your visibility to other road users, helping you get to your destination safe and sound.

All you have to do is clip the SpokeLit to your spokes (well where else are you going to put a SpokeLit?), click it on and get pedalling. You then have the choice of a constant or a rapidly flashing coloured light. We kind of prefer the constant light on a purely aesthetic level – cycling at the right speed produces that lovely ring of light effect. Of course, it’s more about staying visible on the roads than looking like an extra from Blade Runner, but there’s no harm in looking cool.
Installation is a snap at just a few seconds, price £7.99.

TV vendors including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Sony, Sharp and Toshiba showcased their latest TV technologies at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, with 3D displays being a major attraction.

Samsung exhibited its 3D-capable LED-backlit LCD TVs, LED7000, LED8000, LED9000, which allow users to switch between 2D and 3D display. Samsung emphasized that the company aims not only at continuing to be the leading vendor in the LED-backlit TV market, but also at becoming the leader in the 3D TV market in 2010.

LG demonstrated it ultra-thin 3D-capable LED-backlit TV series, the Infinia.

Sony displayed its 3D LCD TVs, the Bravia XBR-60X900 and XBR-52HX900 at the CES. The 3D LCD TVs will hit the North America market in the summer of 2010.

Toshiba showcased its Cell TV, a LED-backlit LCD TV integrated with the Cell Broadband Engine and the advanced CELL Platform. The Cell Broadband Engine is a central processing core based on IBM’s Power Architecture technology and eight synergistic processing elements (SPE), jointly developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba.

Sharp, which did not exhibit any 3D display, introduced its four primary color (R, G, B, Y) technology and products, which it said provide better color performance.

Coke Fuelled Mobile Phone

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Never be caught out again with this ingenious concept coke mobile phone that runs on Coca-Cola drinks. Yes that right, the bio battery the phone generates electricity from the carbohydrates (the sugar) in the Coke and uses enzymes as the catalyst.

Bio batteries have been around a for decades and can produce 3 or 4 times the amount of energy a traditional lithium mobile phone battery can. Seems strange why this isn’t already a commercial product. Especially as Coke is pretty much available anywhere in the world these days.

The USB Apple Speaker

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

When someone mentions an Apple USB speaker, most people picture sleek lines and a massive price tag.  Something with a whole lot of class and sophistication, not to mention a very recognizable brand name.  Well if that’s what you had in mind then you’ll be sorely disappointed by these Apple USB Speakers.  However, if you have a thing for quirky speakers then these little apples will work out just fine.

These USB speakers even have a small keychain attached to the side to make carting the speaker around a little bit easier.  It also has a rechargeable Lithium ion battery that makes the speaker just a little more environmentally friendly.    As well as having the usual 3.5mm stereo audio connector, which allows for it to hook up to MP3 players, your laptop and anything else with that type of connector.

The apple comes in a few different colors, such as yellow, red, pink, green and black.  You can purchase it for $13.

Flexible Mini Capsule Microphone for iPhone 3GS

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It isn’t exactly the best device out there, as there still isn’t anything which can do everything well, and the iPhone 3GS is no exception. One of its major weaknesses would be less-than-satisfactory sound quality when recording, which is why the new Flexible Mini Capsule Microphone from Brando was introduced – it is highly flexible, allowing you to point the microphone on its swiveling base to receive sound from any direction, and doing so with a 25+ dB gain for enhanced sound clarity and quality.

Compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G and iPod Nano 4G, you will be able to pick up this nifty device for $14.

Basketball Hoop Alarm clock will fail to wake up an NBA player

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The Morning Shooter is a special alarm clock with a basketball hoop that needs you to shoot a ball into the hoop to get it to shut up when the alarm goes off.

This is definitely a challenge for those who’re not good shooters. The alarm clock rings to wake you up. In order to stop it from ringing to continue to sleep, you have to shoot a ball into the hoop.

If you’ve tried for a couple of times but failed to get the ball into the hoop, the result will likely be you are already fully awake or you’ll probably wanna try a dunk then. But for the good shooters or basketball players, this will not be an effective one.

It features an LCD screen that displays the time. The product page does not tell whether it comes included with a ball or you may have to get your own basketball ready.

Buy online $16.70.

Mophie iPhone credit card scanner

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Mophie, primarily known for their juice/battery packs or cases, has now taken a leap, planning to produce a credit card scanner for the iPhone. The picture above shows that the Mophie iPhone credit card reader will likely come in the form of a case which its bottom has a reader for you to swipe your customer’s credit card for accepting payment on the go.

The Mophie’s credit card scanner is a combo of hardware and their own software solution. The Mophie Credit card scanner is simply handy for small business owners, which you can use it on your iPhone to swipe the credit cards of your customers for collecting payments.

It’s unclear whether Mophie is getting into transaction business or they simply act as a middle man. But I guess the latter shall be the better choice for them as transaction business is not their cup of tea.

Insdream SX601–A Kindle look-alike e-Book reader

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Insdream SX601 is an e-Book reader that looks pretty much alike the Amazon Kindle. It also features a 6-inch display, but instead of the usual E-ink display, it’s opted for a 16-greyscale-level DSTN panel.

Insdream claims the benefit of their DSTN panel is faster refresh times with the same power efficiency as an E-Ink panel. But it has reduced contrast while compared to E-Ink and is unsuitable to be used in low-light conditions. The Insdream e-Book reader does not have wireless connectivity, so the users have to rely on using USB drives or memory cards to load and unload files.

The Insdream reader supports formats include TXT, HTML, PDF, EPUB, PDB, FB2, CHM, RTF,TCR, OEB and OpenReader. The battery can last for two weeks on regular reading. It also has landscape and portrait modes, which can be switched by a button-push.
