The touchscreen wallpaper of the future

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I think that we all know that the future is full of Microsoft Surface technology, and I look forward to the day when every table or desk is a touchscreen.

This touchscreen is very useful for all.

DISPLAX, made by a Portuguese company, is prepared for an age where every tabletop, wall, or any large flat (or even curved) surface could be a touchscreen. DISPLAX is a thinner-than-paper polymer film that can be applied to glass, plastic, or wood and can detect up to 16 touches at once.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to think of some good uses already. In fact, my dream house will have DISPLAX as wall-paper in every room. Read the rest of this entry »

Intel Atom chips enroute with support for DDR3 RAM

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

An unconfirmed rumor maintains Intel will soon release two new updated Pine Trail Intel Atom chips, the Atom N475 and N455. The former has a 1.83GHz clock speed while the latter retains the common 1.6GHz rating, and both get DDR3 RAM support, which is a first for the Atom range.

Otherwise, the chips keep the TDP ratings of those they are based on, with the N455’s 5.5W TDP and the N475’s 6.5W. A range of netbooks with the new chips is expected near the end of the year, as the chips are scheduled to begin shipping in the fall.

Drum Kit Keychain Gadget Price

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The advent of the drum solo changed rock music forever. Previously drums had been pretty mad… with all the attention that vocals and guitars were getting. However finally they could take center stage while playing alone for 30 or more boring seconds in a row. Bands like Van Halen tried to add interest to this long sequence of drums by adding the rotating drum cage to their concerts… unfortunately this made the drums motion sick and caused numerous percussion based lawsuits.

Now you can keep your own mini drums in your pocket, ready to whip out and beat into a frenzy at a moments notice. Sadly a rotating drum cage is not included.

Product Features

* Electronic keychain plays the drums when you tap it
* Six different playable drums each with its own sound
* Oh… also holds your keys
* Batteries included

It would be nice if the device came with some sort of recording facility in order to record down all your thumb-tapping solos in their full glory to be shared with others. Apart from that, it makes for an interesting keychain, and nice to know that you get batteries included with each $7.99

Microsoft gaming keyboard

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Microsoft committed itself further to gaming keyboards Monday morning through the SideWinder X4. The USB peripheral revolves around a freshly developed anti-ghosting technology that can recognize many key presses without losing input. A user can press as many as 26 keys at once and so can keep control even in the middle of a first-person shooter.

The full-length USB keyboard also has programmable macro keys, the option to automatically repeat macros and a profile feature to reconfigure the keyboard for different games. Backlighting is equally adjustable and can be set to match a given game.

Microsoft doesn’t ship the X4 until March but will start taking pre-orders at Amazon before the end of the week at $60

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

All the while giving it some juice directly from the solar panel that’s attached to the front of the case.  You could use it for emergency situations only or use it on a more regular basis, either way it would come in handy.

The case is meant to work with your usual small gadgets like your camera, cellphone and MP3 player.  All of which should fit into the case provided that they’re a smaller sized device.  It comes with an AC charger, a USB connect cable and a mobile phone plug to help you plug in your phone.  You just put it in the case, plug it in and zip it up.  The cord stays concealed within the pouch.  You can purchase one for $32.99.

Flower Infant Nurser Baby Monitor Camera

A lot of baby monitors just look like every other electronic device on the market.  If you’d like one that’s going to blend in within the baby’s room then these little cameras would do a whole lot better.  These bright flowers actually look like they belong in a kids room.  Plus they have the benefits of giving you a visual of your baby as well as making it possible to hear when the baby is crying.

The camera will work even when the room has gone dark.  There are two different portable wireless cameras that can clip onto the edge of the crib or the edge of a shelf.  You can then watch the color video on the rechargeable receiver.  The cameras come in a two pack and it appears they come in two different colors, but I don’t believe you can pick those two colors.  You can purchase the set for $134.99.

Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale gets an update

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The first Wi-Fi-connected personal scale in the world that boasts integration with the Google Health service. In a nutshell, the Withings WiFi Body Scale is capable of providing updates to a user’s Google Health profile in real-time thanks to its integrated Wi-Fi connection.

Just what is Google Health? Launched in 2009, Google Health functions as an online personal health record which enables users to store, organize, and manage health information in a single, centralized location. With relevant information collected, it can then be shared with nominated individuals, where among them include (but are not limited to) doctors, care-givers and other family members. Sounds like the perfect online accountability tool for individuals who are striving for weight gain/loss which points toward their health status. Of course, there is always the chance of cheating by keying in the wrong numbers, but this is where the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale comes in handy. After all, the scale will automatically send updates of your weight and fat mass to your Google Health profile, ensuring there is no tampering in the process.

Apart from Google Health, the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale currently is able to connect to a secure webpage, an iPhone (free app) and even via Twitter. Interested in picking up this super smart scale? It can be yours for $159.

Electrical Clothes Hanger Dryer

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Winter can be pretty sucky as your clothes will have a hard time drying out on a clothesline unlike in summer, but good thing there’s this thing known as dryers (which consume a whole lot of juice, obviously, but that’s the price to pay if you don’t want to wear soggy underwear for the entire winter season). Well, there is nothing quite like a little bit of improvisation in the form of the Electrical Clothes Hanger Dryer. Retailing for a relatively affordable $28.04, the Electrical Clothes Hanger Dryer must be connected to a power outlet, and when turned on, hot air will blow out of it to turn whatever’s hung on it as dry as the Gobi desert. Well, almost. Be careful not to plug this in when your hands are wet though!

Chargepod gets an upgrade

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The new Chargepod will charge even bigger gadgets and at an even larger price.  Sure it’ll make it possible to carry less chargers when you’re traveling, which is ideal with a big family of gadget lovers.  However, it’s a convenience that’ll cost you.

This one will give your cellphone, laptop, camera and other devices the power that they crave.  All of those devices plug into the Chargepod and the Chargepod itself only takes up one of your outlets.  You’ll need different cable tips to accommodate your different devices and each one will probably cost you about $10 a piece.  Then for the device itself it’ll cost you about $200.

Hovercam scans documents quickly

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Most of us have flatbed scanners at home, and many of them take a few minutes to scan a single document. Even though the resolution and clarity of today’s scanners is better than it was ten years ago, the speed of scanning remains almost the same. Scanners are also bulky, and take up a lot of space.

This is not the case with the Hovercam Scanner. Just to let you know, there is no hovering technology involved to make the scanner float in air, but it is way more advanced than most scanners.

As you can see, the Hovercam takes up less room, and you can see a long digital camera atop the mast on this thing. The user sticks their document or anything underneath that camera, and an image is scanned and photographed in seconds rather than the slow minutes of most scanners.

The Hovercam is designed by Pathway Innovations, and saves the scans in RIA (Rich Internet Application). Images can then be dragged and dropped into folders and then turned into PDFs.

The Hovercam also has a built-in microphone which makes it a visual presenter much better than those overhead projectors. There is also a version called the CardPro that is also a great device for scanning business cards.

A Hovercam for home use, the X300, sells for about $139.99. The Office model, the X500, sells for about $199.99, and the previously mentioned CardPro sells for $79.99.

Vuzix 920AR augmented reality glasses

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Vuzix 920AR augmented reality glasses is their present models simply have LCDs at the eyes as well as headphones on the frames, so a user can watch their video on the road as a very private experience.

The last time we cover Vuzix and augmented reality, it was at GDC 2009. Well, they were up to some new tricks at CES 2010. Hit the jump if you want to see a video of it.

The Wrap 920AR has a camera that can capture video a 752 x 480 resolution at 60fps, and combine it with a 1504 x 480 stereoscopic 3D image. You can see on the video some guy playing some sort of game with the goggles.

You will notice the man playing the game is doing nothing but looking at a bunch of strange symbols. These are the augmented reality codes that we have seen before on other entertaining applications, and the Wrap 920AR has many uses, but we already covered that with the short film. It should be out in March, but my source doesn’t have a price.

Jenn-Air oven has touchscreen LCD display

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It isn’t every oven that has a 7-inch full-color touchscreen LCD.

This 30 inch Double Wall Oven with V2 Vertical Dual-Fan Convection System by Jenn-Air has an incorporated cooking guide to help those cooking.

This Culinary Center allows the user to select options for adjusting the cooking cycle, and delivers a desired end-result. For example, it has a picture of what medium rare looks like, for the culinary deficient. It can also tell cooks where to stick the a meat thermometer.

When the oven is not cooking, the user can adjust the screens so they are showing something like a floral pattern, or an analog or digital clock.

The touchscreen makes it easy for the iGeneration to cook as the user can adjust temperature by just sliding their finger across the screen. No more of those old school dials or switches. In fact, I can see all ovens of the future adopting Jenn-Air’s model, making switches and buttons a thing of the past.

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It can be used alone as an FM radio or you can hook it up to an iPod and use it as a portable speaker.  This 1.45” wide by 1” high by 0.75” radio can be charged fully by hooking it up to your USB port.  If just one of these isn’t enough you can pick up a stereo-to-mono splitter cable and use two.  Currently these are retailing through the Korean Early Shop.  They’ll cost you 39,800 won or about $34.

LightCap 300 Solar Powered Lantern & Water Bottle

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Who would have thought that something as ordinary as a drinking bottle could also harness the power of the sun with a strategically placed solar panel, where this converted energy can then be used to power its built-in lantern? The LightCap 300 Solar Powered Lantern & Water Bottle does exactly just that, retailing for a mere $29.99 while featuring a quartet of extremely bright white LEDs without weighing you down with its 10.5 oz weight for both bottle and cap.

The translucent cap is deemed to be unbreakable, although we’re pretty sure that falls within reasonable boundaries and does not include having a huge slab of concrete dropped over it from a few meters above. Looks like a decent tool to bring camping, and at least you can see whether any creepy-crawlies have made it to the inside of your drink at night before taking a few sips.
